First off, I do not intend to portray myself as any kind of expert on depression. I have gathered some resources that I find helpful and leaned on a few friends that have more experience than I do. Any helpful insight probably started with me doing work on myself first and being helped by others. However, we all process these things differently, which leads me to my second point…
This stuff is complicated! Not unnecessarily so, but “depression” is itself a description of a set of wide-ranging symptoms that have physical, psyco-social, ethical, and spiritual causes. It looks different in everyone because it has different causes in everyone. I intend this to be a broad overview of 1) internal emotions that contribute, 2) external suffering that contributes, and 3) practical ways to find hope and help others and ourselves.
