This past Saturday the worship teams of HBC, GPBC, and Grace Bible Church of Pompton Plains had a great time discussing the nature of worship, the pitfalls of idolatry, and how to apply what we learned practically on stage. We broke down the following definition of worship…
“Worship is the continuous outpouring of all that I am, all that I do and all that I can ever become in light of a chosen or choosing god.”
-Harold Best “Unceasing Worship” pg. 18
We first discussed the meaning of “continuous outpouring”, and how that is linked to being made in the image of the God who is constantly outpouring himself to sustain creation. We then discussed what we are constantly outpouring, namely, “All that I am, all that I do, and can become”, and how where we find our identity, what we do with our time, and what our aspirations are indicate what we are worshipping. Finally, we talked about “chosen gods” (idols) we tend to create as well as what it looks like to worship the “choosing God”. We wrapped up with a brainstorming session on what it looks like to worship God rightly as a team, how we can get better, and other ideas about tech and gear.
