This past week we discussed the role of the Holy Spirit in our services. This is a topic that is often overlooked in our circles where we don’t practice the spiritual gifts of prophecy, tongues, or healings. We can think of the Holy Spirit as a weird force or energy that we don’t know what to do with. However, as we look at scripture we realize that the Spirit is active in many ways in our services. His role in inspiring scripture is one of the most important ways he is involved because our services ought to be scripture saturated!
The Spirit’s role within the Trinity is to glorify Christ, not himself. Thus we rely on his power to make him glorious to us. As we glorify Christ in our singing, prayer, and preaching, the Spirit is doing his work in and through us. We can only worship Christ because the Spirit has opened our eyes to the glories of Christ. Thus, we don’t have to make much of the Spirit, but recognize his work in making much of Christ! Check out the handout and video to hear how we talked about how this shows up practically in our services.
