As we go through our sermon series on Revelation we are encouraged to persevere as we gain a vision of who God is, what he’s doing, and what he will do. Although evil is powerful, in the end Christ will prevail and those in him will have their reward. But what is our reward? More stuff? Streets of gold? Mansions? Vindication over all the bad guys? No. Our ultimate reward is Christ himself. He is our way in, and he is the reward. We will not pass him on the way in past the pearly gates, say a quick “Thanks Jesus!”, and proceed to get our cool eternal gadgets and treasures. Psalm 16:5 says, “LORD, you are my portion and my cup of blessing; you hold my future.” When Jesus comes the reward is bound up with him (Rev 22:12), and we will see his face (Rev 22:4). So as we walk in this fallen world, know that we already have the reward! Christ is already ours, and we will fully experience it when the sinfulness of our hearts is removed and we have perfect fellowship with our Creator. Here’s the full lyrics to the song…
Verse 1:
Mine are days that God has numbered
I was made to walk with Him
Yet I look for worldly treasure
And forsake the King of kings
But mine is hope in my Redeemer
Though I fall, His love is sure
For Christ has paid for every failing
I am His forevermore
Verse 2:
Mine are tears in times of sorrow
Darkness not yet understood
Through the valley I must travel
Where I see no earthly good
But mine is peace that flows from Heaven
And the strength in times of need
I know my pain will not be wasted
Christ completes his work in me
Verse 3:
Mine are days here as a stranger
Pilgrim on a narrow way
One with Christ I will encounter
Harm and hatred for His name
But mine is armour for this battle
Strong enough to last the war
And He has said He will deliver
Safely to the golden shore
Chorus
And mine are keys to Zion city
Where beside the King I walk
For there my heart has found its treasure
Christ is mine forevermore
Bridge:
Come rejoice now, O my soul
For His love is my reward
Fear is gone and hope is sure
Christ is mine forevermore
Chorus
And mine are keys to Zion city
Where beside the King I walk
For there my heart has found its treasure
Christ is mine forevermore
Christ is mine forevermore
Christ is mine forevermore
